Diocese of Virginia Missions St. Michael's expresses its grateful thanksgiving to God by returning a proportion of its income to the work of the Lord, through support of the shared mission and ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.
We are committed to participating through the Virginia Plan for Proportionate Giving, which since 1958 has helped shape our stewardship of personal, parish and diocesan financial resources. The support of St. Michael's and the many other parishes across the Diocese of Virginia sustains the important mission work of the diocese in Virginia, across the US, and overseas.
The diocese's mission website provides an in-depth review of the mission activities we support, which include building schools in the Sudan, assisting Crow Indians in Montana, supporting rural communities in West Virginia, underwriting medical missions in Latin America, and providing disaster relief in Mississippi, Louisiana, and South America.
Episcopal Relief and Development ERD is an international relief and development agency of The Episcopal Church of the United States. ERD uses contributions to serve and support suffering people in more than 40 countries. ERD's focus has been on alleviating poverty, promoting health and fighting disease, and responding to disasters (such as Ebola relief, above), both at home and abroad.
In sub-Saharan Africa, ERD is supporting an innovative project so that women smallholder farmers can save their time and labor through donkey plows (photo at top), instead of working the fields with hand tools.
St. Michael's parishioners have found that donations to ERD can be an effective way to support disaster relief and poverty alleviation efforts around the world. To learn about ERD's programs and about making donations, visit the ERD website.
