A new floor in the Parish Hall will be appreciated by the many people – young and old – who enjoy using this space.
MFIF – A Great Record of Accomplishment
As of Spring 2016 it is great to know that we’ve completed the planned, contracted construction portion of Moving Forward In Faith (MFIF). We can all take pride in the renovation work that has been completed to both the Rectory and the Church.
At the Rectory, we replaced the roof, insulated the attic, replaced the windows, upgraded the master bathroom, removed asbestos and replaced asbestos flooring, and replaced kitchen appliances.
In the Church, we’ve replaced windows, replaced the exterior front steps, repainted most of the interior, replaced lighting with light emitting diode lights throughout the Church, added exterior lighting, replaced the kitchen stove and disposal, removed asbestos tiles and replaced flooring in the upstairs classrooms, renovated 3 bathrooms, replaced two toilets with water efficient toilets, and replaced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units.
The Vestry Challenge: Complete Top Priority Projects
Due to MFIF funding constraints, we were unable to accomplish several important tasks in the Church: replacement of the Parish Hall floor, replacement of dividers within the Church classrooms, and building a hard wall to create a larger nursery. The cost estimate for these efforts is $30,000.
Believing that it was important to get these priority tasks done, the Vestry earlier this year applied for a $15,000 matching grant from the Diocese of Virginia. We have now been notified that we will receive a grant, but in the reduced amount of $7,950 (all grant recipients received the same 53% “haircut”).
To launch our Final Phase projects, we thus need to raise $22,050: $7,950 to match the Diocese’s grant, and the remaining $14,100 to achieve our target of $30,000.
Replacing the aging flexible room dividers will allow our classrooms to be safely configured for multiple uses.
Our Parish Hall was used for Sunday worship for several weeks in 2015 while work was being done on the Sanctuary.
Ever since the church was built, the Parish Hall has provided a welcoming space for fellowship.
